Girls! Prom Days Coming - Finding The Perfect Dress

Wednesday, July 23, 2014
Putting together your look for a prom party is an adventure in itself. It is a special moment in every girl's life and she strives to look her best. Most girls concentrate on choosing the right dress, but your prom look has more to it than simply the dress. It also includes choosing the right hairstyle and accessories. If your prom night is around the corner, here's what your checklist should include.

The Dress

Prom nights bring to mind floor length, voluminous dresses like those found in fairytales. However, you can always look beyond it; after all, it is no hard and fast rule that you must show up in a billowing gown. Cocktail prom dresses are in vogue. They hit at the knee or just above it. They are made in the same fluffy and flowing fabrics to create a soft and feminine look.

The choice of color will also determine your ability to perfect your prom look. The color you pick should complement your skin tone. Girls with a fair skin tone should stick with bright and pastel shades. This includes a bold red, a navy blue, dark green, pink, lavender or turquoise. Stay away from very light colors as it makes fair skin look pale and washed out. Dresses in bright shades such as olive green, orange and dark purple look stunning on girls with a medium skin tone. Dark skinned girls are lucky when it comes to colors because almost every color brings out the richness of their skin. There are exceptions though; it includes black and brown.

The last and final factor when selecting a prom dress is your body shape. Your body shape influences the style and cut of dress that is most flattering for your figure. It also influences your choice of fabrics. An empire waist dress flatters a tall and skinny frame as much as it does a full figure with a heavy bottom and a bulging tummy. The high waist highlights your thin waist and skims over your stomach. Thus, it conceals the bulge from unsightly glares. It balances your body proportions perfectly. For girls who are curvy but not full figured, a figure-hugging dress should look good. However, it should not be too tight. If you have a petite frame, your aim in dressing should be to lengthen your appearance. Do not opt for very long dresses that swallow you up. A mermaid dress is a fine choice. Short prom dresses are the best for your body as they show more leg and create an illusion of a longer body. For all skin tones, avoid a white, lace dress. It looks elegant and gorgeous, but this is your prom night and not your wedding day.

Hairstyles

The right prom dress teamed with the right hairstyle will make you stand out in the crowd. You can choose to create a classic preppy look, a vintage-boho look or show off your edgy-cool side by styling your hair creatively. Messy buns and braids look elegant yet not too strict for a teenage girl. If you want to keep it simple, you can let your hair loose with messy waves or curls at the bottom. The classic half-up half-down hairstyle is a favorite hairstyling option with teenagers.

Accessories

A common mistake most teenagers make is they overdo the bling. Teenagers need not wear too much of jewelry. If you will be wearing dangling earrings, there is no need for a neckpiece. Also, if you want to wear a chunky neckpiece, you can forgo the earrings. You can wear a crystal bracelet for your hand. Carry a matching clutch to complete the look.
